The Volusia County Sheriff’s Deputies with the Air One, the Edgewater Police, and members of the Civil Air Patrol, found the body of an experimental airplane pilot, who was killed in a crash Wednesday night. The plane crash was discovered just after 7 p.m. in the Oak Hill area, on a wooded lot two miles to the Northeast of Maytown Road.
According to a release, an initial call of a possible plane crash came in shortly before noon in an area north of Blue Ridge Flightpark Airport but responding deputies did not find a downed plane. Later in the afternoon, just after 4 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a notification of an emergency beacon activation from an aircraft earlier in the morning. Deputies conducted a well-being check on the plane’s registered owner and received no answer at the door, finding his hangar was empty.
While the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office has been in contact with family members of the deceased, there has not been a positive ID made at this time.
The FAA and NTSB were notified of the crash and will take over the investigation today.
