The Ormond Beach Police Department is investigating the suspicious death of a female driver after she was found unresponsive in the parking lot of the KFC off West Granada Boulevard.

Just before 10 a.m. on Friday, August 26, 2022, officers responded to reports of a vehicle with a bullet hole near the 1400-Block of West Granada Boulevard. Investigators identified a suspected vehicle in the matter, and a BOLO alert was issued. Around noon the suspected vehicle was spotted, and officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop before the car fled from the scene.

According to a release, after the vehicle crashed into the KFC parking lot, a white male passenger fled from the car and attempted to conceal himself from the police inside the Dollar Tree at 274 West Granada Boulevard. After locating the passenger inside the store, officers took the man into custody without incident. At this time, other responding officers tried speaking with the female driver of the vehicle and found her unresponsive. Ormond Beach Fire Rescue responded to the scene, declaring the driver dead at approximately 12:30 p.m.

The Ormond Beach Police Department is actively investigating this incident, which is believed to be isolated, meaning there is no active threat to the public. If anyone has any information about this incident, contact Corporal Jeremy Smith at Jeremy.smith@ormondbeach.org.
