Volusia County announced the appointment of Karen Feaster, the distinguished airport director at Daytona Beach International Airport, as the 2023-2024 chair for the Florida Airports Council (FAC). This appointment reflects Feaster's extensive involvement with the FAC since 1994 and her dedicated contributions to the industry.

“It’s an honor to be part of this leadership team,” Feaster said. “The focus of FAC for the next year will be on the governance of the association and ensuring the needs of our members are exceeded.”

According to a release, the FAC is the official association of public airports in Florida and the professionals responsible for airport operations, with representatives from all 19 commercial service airports in Florida – 75 publicly owned general aviation airports and a spaceport. Their mission is to represent airports in the Sunshine State through a shared vision and unified voice, effective advocacy, and professional development to sustain and enhance the role of Florida’s economy. The council's membership further encompasses over 250 corporate, educational, affiliate, and student members, showcasing the wide-reaching influence of Florida's aviation sector.

“FAC serves as an invaluable catalyst, fostering connectivity and economic growth across the state,” said Feaster. “By collaborating and innovating, the council elevates our airports to continually enhance travel experiences for all while driving prosperity for Florida's communities.”

Florida's airports provide an impressive $336 billion in economic impact statewide, with the aviation sector being responsible for creating 1.4 million jobs with a staggering $60 billion annual payroll stemming from activities associated with the airports. Florida has also achieved prominence on the national stage, securing the top spot in categories such as total pilots, commercial ratings, and flight instructors, ranking second in commercial service. Additionally, the state is ranked fourth in air cargo tonnage.
