Markie Benford, a 36-year-old resident of Daytona Beach, has been taken into custody and is now facing multiple charges, including attempted murder on Saturday afternoon in Holly Hill, where Benford allegedly shot at a man and subsequently fired shots at the victim's vehicle.
According to the Holly Hill Police Department, the altercation occurred between Benford, and an employee of an automotive business located on Nova Road. Reportedly, Benford was present at a neighboring establishment when a verbal dispute ensued between the two individuals.
During the argument, Benford brandished a firearm and discharged it at the victim, followed by firing shots at the victim's vehicle.
Benford claimed that the victim came dangerously close to striking him with his vehicle and further damaged his vehicle's headlight by kicking it. Benford asserts that he believed the victim was about to retrieve a firearm, leading him to act in what he believed was self-defense.
Authorities have Benford in custody at the Volusia County Branch Jail without bond.
