Winn-Dixie Sold to ALDI

German discount grocer ALDI recently acquired Jacksonville-based Southeastern Grocers and its Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets throughout the Southeast, 12 of which are located in Volusia and Flagler counties. According to a press release issued by the German discount grocer, a significant number of Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets will convert to the ALDI format over the next several years. Starting mid-summer, ALDI will begin a phased approach to the store conversion process. ALDI anticipates that approximately 50 stores will begin the conversion process during the latter half of 2024, with the majority of these stores reopening as ALDI in 2025. As announced last August, ALDI intends for a meaningful amount of Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets to continue to operate under their current banners.

ALDI, one of the fastest-growing grocers in the U.S., announced plans to add 800 stores nationwide by the end of 2028 through a combination of new openings and store conversions. One such store began construction this week at the southeast corner of Williamson Boulevard where it meets Summer Trees Road. The site will soon be called The Shoppes at Summer Trees, across from the Pavilion at Port Orange. The Shoppes at Summer Trees includes a separate 12,000-square-foot retail building that is available to be leased to either a single tenant or multiple stores, according to a flier being used to market the project by leasing agent James Mitchell of CBRE in Orlando. Anchored by the 19,432-square-foot ALDI, this will bring the total count of ALDI stores currently in Volusia County to nine.
