The Volusia County Council will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, August 30, at 4 p.m. inside the Volusia County Council chambers on the second floor of the Thomas C. Kelly Administration Center at 123 W. Indiana Avenue in DeLand to deliberate on a crucial matter that could impact the financial landscape of the region.

The central topic of discussion during this pivotal assembly will be the proposal to remove a taxation ordinance that holds significant ramifications for the local populace. If approved, the County will sunset the communications services tax effective January 1, 2024.

The communication services tax, implemented on October 1, 2002, is a 5.22% tax found on itemized invoices provided by communication service providers for consumers within the unincorporated regions of Volusia County. This levy adheres to the regulations outlined in Chapter 202 of the Florida Statutes, encompassing its administration, imposition, and collection procedures.

To engage the community in decisions of such magnitude, the Volusia County Council extends an open invitation to the public to participate in the upcoming meeting so attendees can voice their perspectives and insights during the deliberation process.

Interested individuals who cannot attend in person can email their comments to publicparticipation@volusia.org. To be considered and incorporated into the public record, these emailed submissions must reach the designated address by 4 p.m. on August 29 and include the contributor's full name, residential city, and the relevant agenda item subject or number.

The special meeting will be live streamed on the official Volusia County website at www.volusia.org/livemeeting.
