Volusia County Animal Services is looking for people that are interested in volunteering their time and looking to help serve the community.

According to a release from the county, Animal Services is seeking volunteers to assist with a variety of functions – everything from lending a hand in the animal clinic and at public functions to helping at pet shelters during declared emergencies.

When it comes to volunteer opportunities, Animal Services Director Adam Leath says there’s something for everyone.

“For those who want to contribute, our volunteers can put their skills to use in so many ways,” said Leath. “Their help and generosity enable us to provide our lifesaving work to more pets in need. Whether it’s through direct volunteer work on-site or fostering a pet at home, we couldn’t do all that we do at Animal Services without the support of the public.”

In addition to the animal clinic, disaster shelter, and pet foster care, Animal Services is also seeking volunteers to help with administrative services as well as the return to field program for community cats. Duties run the gamut – anything from wrapping and cleaning surgical instruments, data entry, and assisting with paperwork and traffic flow at pet microchip events to hugging some lovable puppies and kittens to help them recover after surgery.

While experience with animals is a plus, Animal Services provides training to all volunteers.

“The contributions of our volunteers are invaluable,” said Leath. “And with additional volunteers, we’ll be able to help more animals.”

For more information or to sign up as a volunteer, call Animal Services at 386-248-1790.
