The City of Ormond Beach and its Department of Leisure Services is proud to announce the Joyce Ebbets Children’s Environmental Education Scholarship Fund, which will send two children to this year’s summer Enviro Camp, held at the Environmental Discovery Center in Ormond Beach.
According to a release, Enviro Camp allows Ormond Beach students ages seven to ten to participate in one of the camp’s four-week sessions offered from June 6 to July 1 or July 11 to August 5. The camp’s theme changes each week and encompasses a different environmental topic, and events range from nature walks and observations to fishing, nature-inspired arts, crafts, and other activities. Enviro Camp runs Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and space is limited to sixteen campers per week.
The Joyce Ebbets scholarship is funded through generous donations made in memory of the late Joyce Ebbets, a City Commissioner and Ambassador with the City of Ormond Beach and the Department of Leisure Services. This scholarship fund honors her legacy of love for the environment and educates area children on the wonders of our natural resources and how to respect and protect them.
Students wanting to participate in the essay contest are to draft an essay on the following topic: “Why Protecting Wildlife Habitats Is Important."
Essays must be the original work of the student, submitted with a cover page that includes the student’s name, age, grade, school, email, and phone number, must be legible if handwritten, and if typed, the essay must be double spaced.
There is a minimum count of three hundred words and a maximum count of five hundred words.
Submission for all essays can be via email in PDF or Word Document form only to: Duane.Price@ormondbeach.org or mail to: City of Ormond Beach, Leisure Services, 399 N. US 1, Ormond Beach FL 32174 Attn: Duane Price.
