Join the City Nature Challenge from April 28 to May 1.

Volusia County officials are inviting residents to capture observations of biodiversity and become community scientists from April 28 to May 1, 2023, during the "City Nature Challenge 2023: Volusia County." This friendly competition encourages individuals to download the iNaturalist app, head outside, and snap photos of plants, fungi, and wildlife. Despite its name, observations can be made anywhere in Volusia County, even in your backyard.

To participate, residents can share photos through the iNaturalist app using #CNCVolusia2023. 

The City Nature Challenge is an initiative organized by the National History Museum of Los Angeles County and the California Academy of Sciences. The Nature Conservancy Florida, Halifax River Audubon, and Pawpaw Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society will act as local coordinators, while Volusia County Government, Green Volusia, Explore Volusia, Lyonia Environmental Center, Marine Science Center, Marine Discovery Center, the Florida Master Naturalist Program, and the Institute for Water and Environmental Resilience at Stetson University will collaborate.
