The Daytona Beach Police Department and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday, thanks to a contribution from an anonymous donor the reward for any information that leads to an arrest of Othal Wallace has increased to $200,000.
Wallace is a wanted suspect in the shooting of Daytona Beach Police Officer Jason Raynor that occurred Wednesday night.
Raynor approached Othal Wallace while sitting in the parking lot of an apartment complex off Kingston Avenue. Raynor began asking him a few questions before Wallace took off from the scene after shooting Officer Raynor in the head. Wallace is still at large.
“Officer Raynor was out there doing his job.” Said Daytona Beach Police Chief Young. “He went out to address crime concerns in that area.”
Officer Raynor is currently at Halifax Health Medical Center, where he is still in critical condition.
In a “heartwarming response,” the Daytona Beach Police Department, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, and other local and state agencies across Florida have a multi-agency search underway.
The original offer was for $100,000, but Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood and Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young announced the reward has increased to $200,000 for anyone with information that leads to an arrest on Wallace. The Daytona Beach Police Department has activated its Emergency Operations Center to take phone calls from the public.
