Green Sea Turtles set for ocean return after rehabilitation.

After months of care and rehabilitation, two green sea turtles named Silver Springs and Indiana Dunes will be released back into their natural habitat by the dedicated staff at the Marine Science Center at the Beach Street Ramp in Ponce Inlet on Thursday, July 13, at 12:30 p.m., weather and surf conditions permitting.

Silver Springs and Indiana Dunes were found stranded in Ponce Inlet on March 22 and April 24 (respectively), in a weakened state and underweight, each weighing less than six pounds. The dedicated team at the Marine Science Center immediately provided intensive care and nursed the turtles back to health by administering fluids, antibiotics, and vitamins to restore the turtles' strength.

Following their rehabilitation, Silver Springs has made significant progress and currently weighs 9.24 pounds, while Indiana Dunes weighs 7.04 pounds. 

Those interested in watching the turtles being released back into their natural habitat can pay to access the beach at the Beach Street Ramp, parking on the south side of the ramp, contingent upon the tide. Additionally, those interested in witnessing the turtle’s release can park at the Marine Science Center free of charge, making the short walk to the beach.

Interested individuals who want to learn more about the Marine Science Center can visit the facility at 100 Lighthouse Drive in Ponce Inlet from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. except for Mondays. Visitors can explore a captivating marine display area and observe the turtle hospital.
