Governor DeSantis announces plans to end Florida Standards Assessments.

Governor Ron DeSantis held a press conference at Doral Academy in Doral, Florida, on Tuesday morning with plans to eliminate the Florida Standards Assessments (FSA) beginning next school year. 

The Governor stated, the current school year will be the last year of FSA testing before being replaced with progress monitoring assessments.

Progress monitoring is short individualized "check-in" assessments conducted three times per year, giving teachers real-time results unique to each student and is currently in use by most school districts in Florida. 

“There will be 75 percent less time for testing, which means more time for learning,” said Governor DeSantis during the press conference. “We feel this is a more nimble and effective approach and should make a big difference."

Progress monitoring tools are customizable to meet individual student needs and allows for timely data to be collected throughout the school year for teachers to make the necessary corrections. The baseline year for progress monitoring will begin in the 2022-2023 school year and will continue going forward.

The elimination of the FSA and implementation of progress monitoring into the Florida school system will be a priority at the upcoming legislative session.
