Volusia County Government held a press conference Friday announcing a free pet event that will be held this Sunday at 9 a.m. at the Volusia County Fairgrounds. This event was originally scheduled for last Sunday but was rescheduled to this weekend due to Tropical Storm Isaias.
This free event will provide free pet food to those who need it due to the financial impact of COVID-19, and free microchipping for all types of species of pets (minus exotic birds), according to Adam Leath, Director of Animal Services in Volusia County.
“Pets should be kept in a kennel, enclosure, or be leashed as staff will remove your pet from your car for microchipping,” Leath said.
Also, sometime next week an announcement will be made on the official start date for the State Funded COVID-19 Testing Site that will be opening at the Fairgrounds, Thursdays through Tuesdays. The site will be closed Wednesday’s. This testing site will be run by the Florida Division of Emergency Management.
Both viral and antibody testing will be provided during hours of operation.
For more information on the pet event or the upcoming testing site, officials are asking residents to visit www.volusia.org.
