Airbnb Announces a ‘Bed Tax’ Began on February 1, 2020 for Volusia County.

Airbnb, an online marketplace for local homeowners to put up their homes as short-term rentals announced Tuesday, that as of February 1, 2020, they initiated a bed tax for its hosts in Volusia County.

The bed tax, also known as the Tourist Development Tax is charged at a 6% rate and includes cleaning fees for up to 182 nights or shorter as per the Airbnb Website.

This agreement is one of tax agreements Airbnb has with 44 of the 67 counties in the State of Florida.

Tom Martinelli, the Florida Policy Director for Airbnb said, “we’re proud of our growing out tax collection partnerships with Florida counties,” and guarantees that Volusia County will be able to enjoy the revenue their vacation rentals bring to the area.

Currently, Airbnb welcomed 6.6 million travelers allowing Florida’s hosts to collectively bring in $1.2 billion in 2019.
