The relentless grip of excessive heat shows no signs of relenting in Volusia County, leaving Emergency Management officials on high alert as the heat index consistently surges beyond 100 degrees each passing day.

In response to the scorching conditions, Volusia County has established designated cooling stations strategically located across the area, providing respite for residents and visitors alike. These cooling havens offer a refuge from oppressive temperatures, ensuring the well-being and safety of the community.

The cooling stations available for those in need include:

• All 14 branches of the Volusia County Public Library are accessible during regular business hours.
• The Bridge shelter at 421 S. Palmetto Avenue in DeLand, daily from noon to 5 p.m. through August 23.
• Ponce Inlet Town Hall, at 4300 S. Atlantic Avenue in Ponce Inlet, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, through August 25.
• Ponce Inlet, the Community Center at 4670 S. Peninsula Drive in Ponce Inlet from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week, until August 25.
• Salvation Army at 1555 LPGA Boulevard in Daytona Beach, beginning August 21 through 31, Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
